18 February to 20 February 2016

School of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg

Welcome to the 2nd edition of the lvlupgamejam that will take place from

18 February to 20 February 2016

at the School of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg

What is a game jam ?

A game jam is a meeting of developers who must design a video game from scratch (from planning to implementation, passing by creation and design) following a topic that is imposed and in only 45 hours. A group of developers is usually made of programmers and artists.

At the end of the development, the teams are ranked based on the originality and the quality of the games.

The visitors are welcome from Monday to Wednesday to attend the Unity tutorial and the conferences about video game development. Friday afternoon, they can come back for a few hours to see the teams while they work. Finally, the public can come see the award ceremony the next Sunday and also test the games made during the event.

A few events will take place next to the main award :

  • PC and Wii U games will be playable
  • The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset will be available to test with some live demos for everyone

What will happen?

There will  be 2 categories of teams: the beginner and the advanced teams. Each category will have 10 groups.

Prizes will be awarded separately for each category at the end.

For the people that don’t know how to make a game, we will host on Monday a tutorial for Unity, a development tool. Futhermore, if you should have problems with Unity while developping your game during the game jam, staff people will be there to help you. Some advanced teams will surely accept to help you too.
